Doctor Noodle's Recession Buster '09 Build FINISHED

I've had this sitting on the shelf for years and now I have a reason to build it. This is Academy-Minicraft's 1/144 scale P-51D Mustang. This is one I'll be building OOB with the kit's decals. Should be simple enough for me to get done in time with everyone else in on this build.

Here's what I'll be working with. This is a small and simple kit. The entire model will be 2 3/4 inches long when finished.

Fuselage dry-fit. This is going to be really simple. (Something I need.) Looks like I won't be needing any filler putty for this little beauty. I'll build it as I've built other aircraft in my collection, with the gear up and in flight.

Hey, is this thing small enough? The BIG parts are small enough to get lost in a shag rug! My eyes hurt already! :duh:

Here's the decal sheet. Looks pretty good considering the image below covers 1 3/4 inches from side to side.

The wing underside with one of the gear doors dry-fit into place. Most of the other aircraft kit's I'd built had gaps in the gear doors that needed lots of putty to fill. This might be one of the first kits I've built in a long time that required no gap-filling whatsoever.

Going together fast. If anyone was wondering, I won't be super-detailing the cockpit.

This kit is going together very nicely. No fit problems, no visible sink holes or pin marks.

I'm looking forwarding to painting it up. I'm planning to use the simple paint scheme shown on the box art along with the kit decals, whether they be historically accurate or not.

I want to treat this as a "Build-Along" and not as a "Build-and-Add-Stuff-To-And-Then-Agonize-About-the-Accuracy-and-Make-the-Whole-Project-Take-Several-Years-Along."

The only modification I'll be making to the model, the "pilot" is a piece of rounded over 1/16-inch diameter acrylic rod.
